To the couple considering a wedding with Michinoku Wakon, from the Date Family.

"Shrines are considered symbols of Japan's unique spiritual culture, protecting both the peace of the nation and the daily lives of the people as their guardian deities. In Sendai, many shrines with deep ties to the Date family, who revered them since the feudal era, continue to stand. The heads of the Date family have long served as officiants, and this tradition has been carried on to the present day.
Through shrine weddings, I humbly offer my prayers for the couple’s happiness as they embark on their new journey together."
Date Yasmune, the 18th head of the Date family

Minekou Ikeda

"Throughout life, people encounter many milestones, known as rites of passage. Among them, a wedding is perhaps the most radiant, mystical, and beautiful.
It is a time to renew the mutual feelings of love and respect, and through elegant rituals, we hope to see Japan's traditional culture continue for generations to come."
Hoko Ikeda, Etiquette Instructor for the Sendai Domain

TRUST YOUR WAY
The future you believe in lies deep within the path ahead

I Experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake
During that time, I painfully realized that “what we take for granted is not guaranteed.”
Later, with the impact of COVID-19 threatening our health and human connections, I felt the same again.
In a single moment, earthquakes and the pandemic took away many precious things.
It was only after losing so much that I realized what truly matters in life.
Even when things are lost, what is truly essential can be revived by human will and passed down with care and love.
That, I believe, is what we call “culture” and “tradition.”
No matter the disaster, I am confident that, as long as people hold on to their will,
they can preserve and carry forward what is important.

A Japanese traditional wedding embodies the spirit and heart of Japan's culture.
When I first became a wedding planner, I looked at weddings from a bride’s perspective.
Now, I feel honored to be able to see weddings through the eyes of a parent.
A wedding is the day when parents shift from the role of “nurturing” to “watching over.”
It is a significant moment in a parent's life as they send off the child they’ve lovingly raised.

The daughter, who was nurtured with so much love during her happy childhood,
dresses in a pure white kimono, becoming a beautiful bride.
The son, more dependable and dignified than ever,
stands tall and proud as he reads the wedding vows aloud.
Watching this, no parent could feel prouder.
It is a day filled with joy, but also a touch of sadness—
a day that brings happiness and, at the same time, a little loneliness.

The fact that these two have met is thanks to the presence of their parents and ancestors who gave them life.
In modern weddings, commercial chapels, wedding dresses, and banquets often take center stage.
But we focus on the wedding ceremony, a once-in-a-lifetime ritual that only the couple can perform together.
We want couples to experience a moment where they can truly appreciate their parents and ancestors,
for giving them life,
and to thank the friends who have always been by their side.
A wedding is the perfect moment to express those words of gratitude.

The shrine or temple where the couple chooses to marry becomes a significant place,
not just for them, but for their family and guests.
This sacred location will become a cherished spot to visit for anniversaries,
New Year’s visits, prayers for safe childbirth, children's shrine visits, and the Shichi-Go-San ceremonies.
Shrines and temples have stood the test of time and will continue to do so.
They will always be there for you to visit.
The place where you hold your wedding will never disappear.
It will always be there, timeless and eternal.

There is a phrase in Japanese, "Wabi-Sabi,"
which teaches us to find beauty in imperfection and the passage of time,
to see the diverse beauty that emerges as things age, rather than view it negatively as deterioration.
When newly married, the couple is, of course, beautiful.
As time goes by, they will develop laugh lines and their appearances may change.
Yet they will share all that time together,
and it is this journey and transformation that we should see as beautiful.
Through a traditional Japanese wedding held at a shrine or temple,
we hope couples will learn to appreciate these changes and make them a guiding principle for their hearts.

It is said that in a lifetime, we meet around 30,000 people.
Among them, I am deeply grateful that the two of you have met each other.
May your wedding day be filled with happiness
and overflowing with gratitude...

Thank you for choosing to meet us at Michinoku Wakon!
